To use the Town Hall feature users would require to share their address with the social media company. The company says the address details stay secure and are not shared or displayed to anyone except for the account holder. Once the information is feeded, the app shows a list of government representatives, who users can follow.
It has been added that the list of representatives shown are based on the user’s location. Those living in small towns won’t see many local representatives. Following their page will keep you updated with their posts in your news feed. There is also a ‘Contact’ button besides the representative name.
When tapped, users get the option to Message or Email them, or visit their Facebook page. At the bottom of the Town Hall page you can toggle on/off notification alerts about the upcoming elections in your area.
Lately, Facebook has been directing its focus towards its main app. The company last month introduced a new section called ‘Discover People’+ . The feature lets you see profiles of Facebook users who are in your town, attending an event in which you are interested in or are working in the same company. It’s not necessary that you may know all of them. Also, the feature will not be showing you those users who are already on your friend’s list.
Facebook is not only focussing on its main app but also has been updating its other apps with new features as well. The social media giant recently announced Messenger Day+ , which works like Snapchat Stories by letting you post photos and videos to your profile that disappear after 24 hours. A new row of thumbnails at the top of the Messenger app will show the latest posts from your friends.
