Lava launches its first Android Go smartphone; here are price, specifications

Amid the announcement of the partnership between Airtel and Google to bring Android Oreo (Go edition) powered smartphones in India, Lava has launched its first smartphone that comes preloaded with the storage-friendly Android Oreo (Go edition) platform. Called the Lava Z50, the budget smartphone marks its entry into the presently-limited range of Android Go devices. Other Android Go smartphones that have been announced at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2018 so far are Nokia 1 and ZTE Tempo Go.

The Lava Z50 will hit the shelves in mid-March at a price of around Rs 5,000 in India. Airtel will offer an additional Rs 2,000 cashback under the ‘Mera Pehla Smartphone’ initiative. The customers will get two years of warranty with the Lava Z50. It comes in Black and Gold colour options and will be available at over 100,000 retail stores. Lava is additionally offering one-time free screen replacement within one year from the purcashe date.

The Lava Z50 comes at a time when Google is relishing the launch of its first Android Oreo (Go edition) devices. Google already confirmed last week that the MWC 2018 will see the launch of first devices powered by its new platform meant for smartphones with 1GB RAM or less. Two smartphones – Nokia 1 and ZTE Tempo Go have already been launched under its umbrella.

 

The specifications of Lava Z50 include a 4.5-inch FWVGA (480×854 pixels) display, protected by 2.5D Corning Gorilla Glass, a 1.1GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6737M processor, 1GB of RAM, and 8GB of onboard storage with microSD card support for expansion. The smartphone has 5-megapixel cameras on both front and rear, along with Bokeh effects.

Moreover, the Lava Z50 also takes care of the Indian diversity and comes with support for 10 India languages. Since the Android Go devices target the users who use their daily drivers for basic things like watching movies, playing music, frequent Internet browsing, and of course, calling and messaging. Lava Z50 comes preloaded with Google’s suite of stripped-down Android apps such as Google Go, Assistant Go, Maps Go, YouTube Go, Gmail Go, and Files Go among others.
