Doesn’t matter even if IMEI is erased

The Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DoT) is ready with a detection system that can track mobile phones even when the SIM card is removed or unique IMEI number has been changed.

Service to launch in August

The Department of Telecom (DoT) has assigned the mobile phone tracking project, Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR), to C-DoT in July 2017. It is aimed at bringing down counterfeit cellphones and discouraging theft.

How it works

The CEIR system will block all services on stolen or lost mobile phones on any network. This can be done even if the SIM card has been removed or IMEI number of the handset changed.

Central system for all telecom service providers

The system will function as a central system for all telecom service providers to share blacklisted mobile terminals. With this, the devices placed under the blacklisted category in one network are not able to work on any other network as well.
